Project Education

Project Education aims to provide quality education to underprivileged children and transform their lives.

We are raising funds to support the education of underprivileged students at Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School, a free school serving poor children in and around Kasuva village in Thiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu, India. The school renders its services free to all students regardless of their caste, creed, religion or gender. Before 1988, most of the children in these villages worked as child laborers. Since the school was established in 1988, it has gradually transformed these villages. The school has consistently reported close to 100% results in Std. X and Std. XII board exams.

Project Teachers Salary

2017-2018

We cannot overstate the importance of having qualified teachers in raising students achivement.  A teacher’s years of experience and quality of training are correlated with children’s academic achievement. Our Project Teacher Salary project aimed to fund 20 teachers' salaries for a year.

We raised funds to support the salary of 7 teachers for a year.

Educational Endowments

2017-present

Education endowments support our educational mission in perpetuity. They allow the school to make future plans knowing the funding will be available. They represent a link between the donors and the children they support.

Many of our donors have created endowments. Some of these donor visit the school to meet the children they support.

Access to Technology

2018 - present

Technology is a vital tool in education. It fosters collaboration and makes information accessible. The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 has brought the issues of  digital inclusion to the forefront. Many of the students of Sevalaya do not have any access to technology. This made online education very challenging in 2020 when the schools were closed. We raise funds to address this inequity funding the installation smart classrooms and procurement of laptops and smartphones.

With generous donations from two PSG  College of Technology Alumni groups,  we have funded four Smart Classrooms. Over the years, we have bought laptops. chromebooks, desktops and smatphones for use in school.

Community Colleges run by Sevalaya in multiple rural locations in the state of Tamil Nadu in India offer free courses, such as tailoring, nursing, bakery, AC and Refrigeration Repair, lab technician, electrician, beautician, carpentry, and various computing courses, train rural youth and help them get jobs.
